Preschool Advocacy

Despite a state mandate to provide high-quality preschool to low-income children across the state, New Jersey has yet to fund this critical early education.

What can you do? Plenty! And it doesn’t have to take a lot of time.

Your state lawmakers, the governor and our representatives in Congress need to hear that their constituents – the people who vote for them – support investments in preschool. Below are four easy ways to influence your elected officials.

1. Join the Pre-K Our Way Campaign

Pre-K Our Way brings us together to make sure our children are prepared for success in school and life—and empowers us to bring effective preschool to our communities and children. Join former Governors Tom Kean and Jim Florio, ACNJ, local teachers, business leaders, and parents to bring Pre-K Our Way.

2. Write a letter.

A simple letter can persuade decision-makers to support preschool. Here is a sample letter for state legislators. Feel free to personalize it, but try to keep it brief and stick to the main message that investments in preschool are good for kids, our communities and our state. This tool will automatically target your local legislators by simply entering your zip code.

3. Send an e-mail.

E-mail is another effective way to reach the people who can fund preschool. With a couple of clicks you can send an pre-written e-mail and join the campaign.

4. Connect on social media.

Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites allow people to directly connect to their elected officials. ACNJ has developed a simple how-to guide on using social media to connect with decision-makers and sample posts. ACNJ’s social media guide.
